From open parcel terminals in cities to mobile charging services for electric vehicles

Participants of the CAS “New Business Models” pitched their business idea to a jury of experts. Dr. Nicola Blum (start-up coach and former management board member at Impact Hub Zurich), Dr. Richard Emmerink (Director of Corporate Development at Schiphol airport and former CFO of Abellio), Prof. Dr. Daniel Huber (BFH) and Prof. Dr. Christian Marxt (ETH Zürich and University of Liechtenstein) were the jury members. This finalizes the last of the three CAS of the MAS “Future Transport Systems”. Leading up to this, students had the chance to become immersed in the topic along with developing and learning how to sell a unique business idea that may change the world of mobility as we know it today.

The diverse and creative business models included parcel terminals replacing obsolete telephone booths, mobile on-demand charging stations delivered by e-bikes to promote electromobility in urban areas. New railway service and shared mobility solutions for people commuting to and from work were also presented. Several student participants introduced ideas for new apps that ease the travel experience of tourists and senior people or guide people when transferring on public transport. The encouraging and critical feedback of the jury will help to refine the ideas and possibly bring new marketable solutions to an ever-changing mobility landscape.

The MAS ETH “Future Transport Systems” will restart in January 2019 with the CAS “System Aspects”. All CAS courses can also be visited individually and registration is open now. For more information, please visit the program website or contact Maria Youssefzadeh.
